Illuminating Art by Luxmuralis, will come to Beverley Minster in February 2024, seeing the international artist collaborations first partnership in the town. The art installation is a large scale interior light and sound experience which will take visitors on an unforgettably stunning journey through the full interior of the church, experiencing art from Baroque through to Impressionism.
As visitors make their way through the Minster, nearly every inch of the building will be illuminated with sound and light, journeying through and encountering four centuries of art and ‘new’ ideas. Multiple large scale projected artworks explore the changes through this period , including Brunel and the age of steam, early photography and Zoetrope (an early animation device).
An amazing kaleidoscope of images in the Nave will wrap the architecture in projections from floor to ceiling , turning the space into a fully immersive experience and showcasing the Pre-Raphaelites (Burne-Jones, Millais, Rossetti and Holman Hunt) and the Impressionists (Monet, Van Gogh, Cezanne, Manet and Renoir) – all titans of their generation seen in a new light.
Luxmuralis’ Artistic Director Peter Walker said:
“It is wonderful to be bringing Illuminating Art to the Minster, one of the most beautiful buildings in the country. Visitors to our artwork may choose how they want to experience the exhibition, either basking in glorious images and sound or digging a little deeper and contemplating the big ideas that emerged after the Renaissance. It is their choice. Many paintings we know and love will be there but there will be areas that investigate what was happening when those pictures were created.”
