In July, as part of continuing Jubilee Celebrations, we’re inviting you to experience the sight and scent of thousands of flowers filling the Minster. They’ll be part of a spectacular display of over a hundred floral arrangements, all designed around a royal theme. It’s the first time in 20 years that a flower festival like this has been held at the Minster. It also marks 20 years since the Queen herself last visited this iconic church.
35 floral designers from flower clubs across East Yorkshire have been invited to participate and flood the church with thousands of flowers in stunning arrangements to mark this special Platinum year for the Queen.
Kevin Hara, our coordinator of flowers at Beverley Minster and organiser of the Jubilee Flower Festival is excited by the sheer scale of this project. “As visitors walk in through the West door, I’m aiming for a total wow factor. There will be floral arrangements throughout the church, in the nave and the side aisles. Even the high altar will be awash with flowers. It’s going to be breath-taking.”
Local children, from Woodmansey, Molescroft, Tickton and Minster primary schools are also busy creating collages, models and paintings for the festival. Themed around the Royal celebrations, their artwork will be displayed alongside the floral arrangements in the Minster.
The Jubilee Flower Festival takes place from Friday 1 – Monday 4 July. And for people wanting a more exclusive, up-close view of the magnificent arrangements throughout the Minster, there’s also a preview evening on Thursday 30 June. Tickets are limited for this opening event, where canapes and drinks will also be served as guests view the floral displays.
Tickets for the main event from Friday 1 July through to Monday 4 July cost £6 can be purchased online or at the door of the minster on the day.
