The Welcome Team consists of about forty people whose purpose is to ensure that visitors to the Minster are made to feel welcome, to identify their needs and to try to provide what they are looking for. They are, of course, helped in this endeavour by the virgers and shop staff.
Visitors have different needs. Some want simply to pray or sit quietly, or light a candle; others want to know how this wonderful Gothic masterpiece came to be in this small town in a somewhat lesser known part of England; yet others to know more about the musician carvings, the misericords or the recently installed modern artwork. Welcome Team members try to help every visitor in a friendly and sensitive way.
Members of the team are normally present from 11am-3pm on weekdays and 12noon-4pm on Sundays.
Contact the Visitor Welcomers Co-ordinator for more information.
