Jesus
Born in poverty.
Lived only 33 years.
Spent most of his life in obscurity.
Never wrote a book.
Never had any position in public life.
Was crucified with two thieves.
And yet, 2,000 years later,
more than 2 billion* people follow him.

This is what the people of Beverley Minster believe about Jesus:
- That Jesus had a special relationship with God – he called him ‘Father’, we call Jesus ‘Son of God’.
- Speaking about his personal relationship with God upset the religious leaders of his time.
- He said ‘I am the way… no-one comes to the Father except by me’.
- He preached through stories (parables) with coded messages about what it means to be in God’s Kingdom.
- He taught people that God was approachable through him.
- He healed people, cast out evil spirits and raised the dead.
- He told people that they must love God and love their neighbour.
- Before he was crucified he shared bread and wine with his friends and commanded them to continue to do this to remember his sacrifice of body and blood.
Yet none of this means a thing for us today without the belief that he died and after three days began to appear to his closest friends. This resurrection from the dead is unique in human history.
