Minster Youth (MY) Supporters – was formed in September 2004 as a result of the success of youth work at Beverley Minster. For almost 8 years the Minster has supported a paid Youth Worker with the task of working with the young people of Beverley helping them understand the Christian faith and grow in discipleship. Part of this role was to work with young people in the Church and community and part was to work in the local schools. The worker was paid through a fund, financed by direct giving, from members of the congregation, for an initial period of 5 years.
After this period the fund was re-launched and the services of a Youth Worker secured for a further 5 years. It was then felt that the position of the youth worker should be made more permanent as the work was growing and more young people were being involved. MY Supporters was a direct result of this thinking and was established to permanently support and ensure funds for paying a full time youth worker at Beverley Minster.
MY Supporters is organised by a small committee that offers support to the Youth Worker and keeps the Minster Congregation informed of events and progress of the youth work and health of the Youth Fund ensuring that enough funds are available to meet costs. A newsletter is published and sent to all MY Supporters in the spring and a full report in September. A Youth Sunday is held in mid September with services reflecting Youth and Worship. An AGM for MY Supporters is also held followed by tea before the evening service. At the AGM a financial report is presented which informs members of the strength of the Youth Fund and how its funds are being used.
As the work amongst young people grew in Beverley the Churches in the town agreed to support a Schools Youth Worker. Beverley Minster was active in supporting this venture and now helps to fund this work to the tune of £5000 each year.
In order that we continue to provide a Beverley Minster Youth Worker, a Beverley Schools Worker and a healthy and growing outreach to young people we need to raise £30000 each year. If you feel you would like to help and wish to become a MY Supporter please contact the Parish Centre.
