Friends Events

The Friends’ Social Secretary arranges visits during the year. The most recent of these was to the National Memorial Arboretum and Lichfield Cathedral.

Saturday August 11th Day School: Minstrels and mystery plays

Morning: Music of the carved minstrels; venue is The Minster
Cost for morning session: £15 Friends; £20 non-Friends

1000 York Waits: illustrated talk on the musician carvings in the Minster – the instruments and their players
1100 Break
1130 York Waits: a concert of medieval music played on recreated instruments of the period
1230 Lunch (own arrangements)
Afternoon: The role of the merchant guilds in medieval Beverley; venue is the Peter Harrison Room
Cost for afternoon session: £5 Friends; £7-50 non-Friends
1400 Professor Barbara English: the merchant guilds, their processions and the mystery plays in medieval Beverley
1530 Tea and close

October 12th -14th AGM weekend

Friday October 12th: Annual Dinner at Cerutti 2 1900 for 1930; after dinner speaker Revd Jeremy Fletcher, Vicar of Beverley Minster

Saturday October 13th

Morning: tours of the outside of the Minster by Dr Matt Woodworth at 1030 and 1145
Afternoon: 1400 talk on the graffiti by Rebecca Hiscott. Venue: Peter Harrison Room

Sunday October 14th

1415: Annual General Meeting in the Parish Hall
1500: Inauguration of the John of Beverley Lecture .This new lecture series will be introduced by Pamela Hopkins; our first speaker is Professor David Palliser, who will be speaking on St John and Beverley. Venue: Peter Harrision Room
1630: Tea in the Parish Hall
1730: Friends’ Festival Evensong

January 5th 2013 Reception

There will be a Friends’ reception following the organ recital given by Robert Poyser, Director of Music at the Minster. Robert will play La Nativite du Seigneur by Messiaen. The recital will begin at 1800 with the recital following immediately afterwards at approximately 1915. Venue: the Minster.
