Children and Families

You are welcome to join us for any of these activities and if you would like to talk to a member of staff first please contact  Ben Merrell (Youth and Children’s Minister) at the Parish Centre on 01482 868540.

Time Out

This group meets weekly for pre-school children (from birth upwards) and their carers (a mix of parents, grandparents and childminders). The group aims to provide an opportunity for fellowship  and friendship and to encourage the spiritual growth of Christian family life. We have toys, crafts, a snack and drink together and finish with song time. There is no need to book, please just come along when you can.

Time Out meets every Tuesday from 10.00-11.30 in the Minster Parish Hall.

FAMILY DAYS

For families, especially children 0-7

We have run regular family days in the Minster for the last three years. We started off by working our way through lots of Julia Donaldson books – The GruffaloGruffalo’s ChildRoom on the Broom, among others. We have also branched out to favourites such as We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and last Christmas, The Snowman and the Snowdog!

Our next event is booked for Saturday 23 September, 10.00 – 12.30 in the Minster when the theme will be The Adventures of Peter Rabbit.

We take over the Minster with games, crafts, prayer areas, films playing and a story time. We have refreshments provided, but you are welcome to bring food or picnics in to eat on the big carpet area in front of our cinema-sized screen!

For more information read our What’s On leaflet.

‘ME AND MY DAD’

Breakfast events are a chance for young children to drag their Dads and Grandads to hang out with other Dads, Grandads and male carers for a morning of fun, activities and of course, coffee and bacon butties! They happen once a month in the Parish Hall between 9.30-11.00am.

For more information read our What’s On leaflet.

Sunday Club

Sunday Club, for children aged under 11 meets during the 10.30 service on Sundays.  Children and adults start the service together before children then go for their own activities; with crafts, games, storytelling and singing.   The children then join the adults again in time for communion.  Sunday Club happens every Sunday (not just term-time), apart from the first Sunday of the month when we have an All Age Service (see below)

Messy Church

We meet once a fortnight in the Parish Hall for an afternoon of craft, stories and songs to look at a part of the Bible. We use these creative activities to get to know other families at church and to worship together, before we finish the session with a meal.

This term we will start on 12 September, and meet once a fortnight from 15.30 – 17.00 in the Minster Parish Hall.

We will be working out way through the Old Testament, starting with creation.

All Age Service

A dynamic, informal style of worship appropriate and fun for all ages and great for families. It includes lively songs led by our music group, interactive prayer, stories, craft.

It happens at the Minster on first Sunday of the month and in our associated churches: Woodmansey on the fourth Sunday, Tickton on the third Sunday.

The services are usually a little shorter than our usual Sunday morning services, running from 10.30 – 11.30.

Choir

The choir is a group of adults, children and young people, which leads the worship in many of our services at the Minster especially on Sundays and on Thursday evenings.  It is open to girls and boys aged 7-16. To find out more contact our Director of Music Robert Poyser.

The choristers have their own fun teaching sessions with Ben our Youth and Children’s Minister on the Sunday mornings they sing in the Minster.
